Did Pastor Chris teach that believers are miracle workers and the waymaker? A biblical examination of his claims using Scripture and context.
Pastor Chris Miracle Worker and Waymaker Teaching: A Biblical Examination

As Christians, we are called to test every teaching by the Word of God. No preacher, minister, or movement is above Scripture.
When a teaching elevates man and diminishes God's role, alarm bells should ring.
❌ Pastor Chris Oyakhilome made statements suggesting that God is not the miracle worker or waymaker—we are.
That claim deserves careful examination in light of Scripture.
Did Pastor Chris Say Believers Are Miracle Workers?
Is God the Miracle Worker, or Are We?
Pastor Chris claims that God is not the miracle worker and that believers are now the miracle workers.
At first glance, this may sound empowering.
The problem is that Scripture consistently points in the opposite direction.
Jesus Never Claimed Independent Power
Jesus said: "But the Father who dwells in Me does the works." (John 14:10)
Notice where Jesus directs attention.
Not to Himself as an independent source of power.
Not to human ability.
But to the Father working through Him.
Jesus also said: "By myself I can do nothing." (John 5:30)
If the sinless Son of God spoke this way during His earthly ministry, how much more should we recognise our dependence upon God?
The Power Belongs to God
Paul writes: "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us." (2 Corinthians 4:7)
Believers are merely clay jars.
The New Testament never teaches that Christians become independent miracle workers.
Rather, God works through weak and dependent people.

God Is the One Who Works
The Bible repeatedly emphasises that God is the One doing the work.
Are Believers the Source of Power or Vessels?
Paul writes: "For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose." (Philippians 2:13)
Who works?
God.
Who gives the desire?
God.
Who supplies the power?
God.
Who accomplishes His purposes?
God.
The Christian life is not self-generated.
It is God working in and through His people.

Spiritual Gifts Come from the Spirit
When discussing spiritual gifts, Paul says: "There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit." (1 Corinthians 12:4)
And later:
"But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills." (1 Corinthians 12:11)
Notice the emphasis.
The believer is the instrument.
The Holy Spirit is the source.

What Does the Bible Say About Who Works Miracles?
The answer is found directly in 1 Corinthians 12.
Speaking of miraculous gifts, Paul writes: "To another the working of miracles..." (1 Corinthians 12:10)
Yet only a few verses earlier he says:
"The same God works all in all." (1 Corinthians 12:6)
Who is performing the miracles?
God.
The miracle may occur through a believer.
The gift may operate through a believer.
But the power comes from God.
The worker behind the miracle remains God.

What the New Testament Says About Spiritual Gifts:
The Spirit Is the Miracle Worker
Paul leaves little room for confusion: "But one and the same Spirit works all these things..." (1 Corinthians 12:11)
Again, who works?
The Spirit.
👉 Not us.
The New Testament consistently places the source of power in God, not in man.
To claim personal ownership of miraculous power moves dangerously close to robbing God of the glory that belongs to Him alone.

Is God the Waymaker or Are Believers the Way?
The Bible never presents believers as the way.
It presents Christ as the way.
Paul writes: "For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord." (2 Corinthians 4:5)
The focus of apostolic preaching was never man.
It was always Christ.

The Treasure Is Christ
Again Paul says: "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us." (2 Corinthians 4:7)
The power belongs to Christ.
The Mystery Is Christ in Us
Paul writes: "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me." (Galatians 2:20)
This is the great mystery of the Christian life.
But we never replace Jesus.
It is not us.
It is Jesus in us.

"Beautiful Song" or Biblical Error?
Pastor Chris referred to the popular idea of God making a way as:
"A beautiful song and a wonderful exhortation."
Yet, he claims its a false teaching.
Is God Still Making a Way?
Pastor Chris said: "These are teachings for babes who have to wait until God makes a way."
Then he said: "In the New Testament God is not making any way."
This raises an obvious question.
If God is not making a way, then who is?
And if the teaching is childish, why does Scripture repeatedly portray God as the One who guides, leads, opens doors, and directs His people?
God the Waymaker
Isaiah declares: "See, I am doing a new thing... I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." (Isaiah 43:19)
God reveals Himself as the One who makes a way where there appears to be no way.
Some argue this belongs only to the Old Testament.
However, when Old Testament truths pass through the cross, they either:
God's character as the waymaker remains unchanged.
The difference under the New Covenant is that He now works through His church by the Holy Spirit.
God is still the Waymaker.
Jesus Is the Only Way to the Father
Pastor Chris rightly said: "Jesus is the way."
Amen.
That is exactly what Scripture teaches.
Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6)
But then Pastor Chris went on to say: "He made us the way."
This is where serious problems begin.
If Jesus is the way, how can we be the way?
There are not two ways.
There is one.
Christ.
Has God Made Us "The Way"?
Pastor Chris stated: "And guess what? He brought us to the Father and as the way to the Father and made us the way."
The difficulty is simple.
No verse in Scripture says this.
Not one.
Believers are:
But nowhere are believers declared to be "the way" in the sense that Christ is.
That title belongs exclusively to Jesus.
What About “The Church Is the Way” in Acts?
Pastor Chris argues: "The church is called the way. We have become the way."
It is true that Christianity is referred to as "The Way" several times in Acts.
However, context matters.
This was a description used by people to identify the Christian movement.
It was not a doctrinal declaration that believers had become the way to God.
Likewise, believers were first called Christians in Antioch.
That label originated with people, not with a divine command.
Names and labels found in historical narratives should not automatically become doctrinal foundations.
Acts is primarily a historical record of the early church.
Doctrine must be established from the clear teaching of Scripture, not built upon incidental labels.
If You Are the Way, Why Must You Be Led?
Pastor Chris asked: "Why would you be looking for the way when you are the way?"
Yet moments later he says believers should: "Pray in the Holy Ghost... and you will be led."
This creates another obvious problem.
If you are the way...
The very fact that believers require the Spirit's guidance proves that we are not the source of wisdom, direction, or truth.
We remain dependent upon God.
Sons of God, Not the Son of God
Pastor Chris quoted: "As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." (Romans 8:14)
That verse is true.
Believers are sons and daughters of God through faith in Christ.
But we must never confuse our position with Christ's unique identity.
We are sons of God by adoption.
Jesus is the Son of God by original nature.
We are followers.
He is the Saviour.
We are witnesses.
He is the Way.
Biblical Summary and Conclusion
The Bible consistently teaches:
✅ God is the One who works in His people (Philippians 2:13).
✅ The Holy Spirit is the One who distributes and empowers spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:11).
✅ Miracles occur through believers but originate from God (1 Corinthians 12:6).
✅ Christ is the Way, not us (John 14:6).
✅ The power belongs to God and not to man (2 Corinthians 4:7).
The danger of many modern teachings is that they subtly shift attention away from Christ and place it upon human ability.
The apostles never preached themselves.
They preached Christ.
And that should remain our message today.
It is not us. It is Christ in us. The glory, power, and praise belong to Him alone.
