Bedford Prophecy and The Red Van

God instructed me to remove the Mayor of Bedford and replace him. Later, He revealed that Bedford would gain international recognition.

Between 2009 and 2012, I received a profound directive: God instructed me to replace the Mayor of Bedford. This initial revelation was just the beginning. As time went on, God revealed a more astonishing vision — Bedford was destined to achieve global recognition.

Join me as I recount this story and explore how these divine instructions might set the stage for Bedford's remarkable rise on the world stage.

The Backstory

After a troubling meeting with the former Mayor over a decade ago, I left his office and, as I walked out of the Borough Hall through the automatic doors, I clearly sensed God urging me to remove him from office and install a new leader.

Was God asking me to run for Mayor? I had no interest in politics — I was just certain that God wanted me involved in replacing the Mayor. The faith He gave me was unwavering; I was absolutely confident that if I campaigned, winning was the only possible outcome. God had granted me an all-too-familiar sense of divine certainty that made success feel inevitable.

Patiently Exploring My Options

As I pondered these things, my goal was to either assist with a political campaign or, as a last resort, run for office myself.

2015 Elections: I was seriously unwell. When I visited the doctors she immediately sent me to the hospital the same day. I watched from the side-lines as the town deteriorated and the Mayor was re-elected.

2019 Elections: I explored helping a particular political party with their campaign. I attended their weekly meetings, but their focus was lacking. Questioning them was like asking a starfish for directions.

When I met their candidate, I had no interest in supporting the campaign. It was a lost cause, not due to the candidate, but because God had not given me the green light.

The Mayor was re-elected, but his days were numbered.

2023 Elections: A Turning Point

By mid-2022, I suddenly remembered what God had said. After scrutinising one candidate’s public materials and videos, I concluded that his campaign was weak and he would likely come third without help. Despite this, I knew he was the right man for the job. That divine certainty swooped in and took over me once more.

I decided to reach out to his campaign—a litmus test. I emailed them, but received no response. On November 9, 2022, I finally got a reply, but then heard nothing further.

After four months of persistent follow-ups, I received a response on my birthday, February 9, 2023. To me, the lengthy delay in arranging a meeting revealed serious issues with the campaign management. How could such incompetence possibly succeed?

The Meeting

On Valentine’s Day 2023, I showed up at the office for a meeting with the candidate, but no one was there—a no-show on our first date! Not very romantic! After a phone call, someone eventually arrived, but it wasn’t him. Instead a female arrived. Clearly, this was not a well-oiled machine destined to win. Yikes! It was so unprofessional and disappointing.

But I knew what I knew. God.

In that initial meeting, I pointed out basic flaws in the campaign because they needed a wake-up call. It was clear something was amiss—like seeing someone with their breakfast on their chin while wearing their underwear outside their clothes. I had to be firm and direct, which isn’t like me, but the boldness came from above.

At Last...Tom

Finally, on February 17, 2023, at 10 a.m., I pitched a group of around six, including the candidate. Some of my thoughts seemed to go over their heads, but I persisted, offering to help get him elected for free with only eight weeks left. The current Mayor had been in office for 14 years.

At 2:14 p.m. after the meeting, I sent a text and ended it #getdaveout—the message that had echoed in my mind since my first meeting with the Mayor.

David verses Goliath

Getting a Conservative elected in Bedford Borough was a colossal challenge.

No Conservative Mayor had ever been elected in Bedford Borough, and the Conservatives were losing ground nationally.

With a tiny budget and only eight weeks of campaigning left, I was ready to tackle the challenge. All I had were five smooth stones.

I invested work valued at £18,000 without seeking public recognition or attending events. My goal was to remove the Mayor, not to seek power, fame, or fortune.

I later found out his campaign was like a circus—disorganised, labour-intensive, and run by a small, overworked troupe of juggling clowns. They had no chance of winning. They were clueless. Questioning them was like asking a half-dead starfish for directions. Regardless, I could practically feel the five smooth stones in my pocket, like David gearing up for a modern-day giant-slaying.

I knew with Divine Certainty that whoever I helped would be elected, but still I wondered if he would be any good. I was impressed with the thought, “He will not be great, but he will do better than the current Mayor.”

Election Results

He won by just 145 votes. While the Conservatives lost 962 seats and control of 48 councils nationally, they won the Bedford Borough Council and lost only two seats. Only three new Conservative Mayoral candidates won nationally, and he was one of them. No one expected him to win—least of all him.

In a live interview I watched shortly after the results, he admitted he was “shocked,” while the previous Mayor was “gutted” and mentioned that he needed to find new employment.

Gutted former Mayor: Searching for a new job

Watching this, I smiled as I recalled what God had said. Job done. Mission accomplished.

I had never told anyone, “God said…” even while campaigning for him. During the campaign I learned he had attended a Pentecostal church years ago.

Though he was Christian I only conveyed my certainty of getting him elected, not mentioning the "God said..."  aspect to avoid being seen as eccentric.

God Spoke Again!

Then God spoke again! He declared that Bedford would be put on the international map. Again, I had that divine certainty.

Global Map - Ways of God, Bishop Michael Reid

On May 14th at 10:55 p.m., I emailed the new Mayor, proposing a plan to put Bedford on the international map. I wrote: “My plan would be to not only put Bedford on a regional map, but on the national and international map.”

He replied, “We had better meet up, and soon.”

When I visited him at the Town Hall just after his election, he and his campaign manager looked unusually stressed.

During our meeting, they tried to get me to reveal my ideas, but I mostly kept them under wraps. When asked how I would achieve certain results I claimed were possible, I simply responded, “That’s the million-dollar question.”

In the end, I didn’t work with them, but they used several of my ideas and took credit for them. One idea they executed poorly, so I emailed him about it.

Some months later, it was announced that Universal Studios had purchased land in the borough to build a massive theme park—right in my area! This was in my back yard.

As politicians scrambled to take credit, I knew God was at work. Even if Universal Studios decided not to proceed, Bedford was already on the international map. If the theme park is built, Bedford will be thrust onto the global stage, with tourists flocking from around the world and warming up the area near my home.

Should I Tell The Story?

Wisdom has taught me not to share everything God reveals immediately. So, I kept these experiences to myself, sharing them with only a few people.

I considered telling the story at a Catholic Charismatic prayer group I regularly attended. On July 18th, 2024, I wrestled throughout the meeting with whether to share the testimony but ultimately decided against it.

After the prayer group meeting, as I waited for transport outside St Philip & St James R.C. Church, I found myself wondering if I should have shared the story. Within minutes, I saw a red van with a message that made me think, “Okay, God, I get the message. I’ll share the story publicly.” As I scrambled to get my phone, the van sped off. Just before it disappeared from view, I managed to snap this photo.

I’m not sure of God’s full plan, but I know that “Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7).
